The first-ever conference and exhibition on motorcycle industry in Pakistan titled 'Motorex-2005' will be held on March 9 and 10 here in Karachi. The event organiser, Naeem Qureshi, announced this at a press conference here on Tuesday and said that 'Motorex-2005' would provide latest information about development and technical advancement in the motorcycle industry in the country.

"The event will highlight the growth of overall motorcycle industry, vendor industry, imports, quality and standards, financial facilities, challenges and opportunities, and role of government for promoting motorcycle industry in Pakistan, he said.

The exhibition would run parallel to the conference and is expected to attract a large number of individual and corporate visitors. The exhibition will display products of different companies, assemblers, accessories, local and international particularly parts, allied products, lubricants etc.

He said that the exhibition would also attract all stakeholders from motorcycle industry including manufacturers, assemblers, importers, marketers, motorcycle dealers, venders, technical experts, corporate organisations, government officials, banks and DFIs, leasing and insurance companies and buyers.

The Chief Co-ordinator, Pakistan Motorcycle Assemblers Forum, Sabir Shaikh, said that in total 22 motorcycle manufacturers and assembler companies (3 Japanese and 19 Chinese) are working in the country.

He said that motorcycle production has been increasing over last few years and 500,000 motorcycles are being produced in the country annually, out of which 350,000 Japanese and 150,000 Chinese motorcycles are sold out every year.

Director Operations, Dewan Mushtaq Group, Anisur Rehman, said that motorcycle industry is boosting after arrival of the new companies with Chinese technology in this sector. He hoped that motorcycle production in the country would further increase in the future, as new companies would invest in this sector and more job opportunities would be created in this industry.
